During 1999, three Albuquerque-based attorneys departed their civil defense firms to form their own partnership: Terrance P. Yenson (“Y”), Phyllis S. Lynn (“L”) and Patrick D. Allen (“A”). Meanwhile, across town at another law firm, attorney Joseph B. Wosick (“W”) was strategizing how to best service his firm’s robust civil litigation workload with the imminent retirement of his two senior partners at the end of 1999. From chance encounters during city softball league games, discussions began among the four lawyers about merging their new ventures. Effective January 1, 2000, the firm of Yenson, Lynn, Allen and Wosick was born and quickly became known in the legal community as “YLAW”. The firm was built with the intent to embody the focused work ethic, generous personalities and enjoyment of life and family possessed by the four founding members. Although the roster of professionals has changed over the years, the culture of treating staff respectfully, zealously representing client interests, engaging in charitable pursuits and seeking to find fun amidst the daunting challenges of litigation has endured throughout the firm’s history. When Allen left the firm to undertake a general counsel role with the University of New Mexico Foundation, the firm formally changed its name to YLAW, P.C. but has never wavered from that initial mission of dynamic legal advocacy, trustworthiness, community engagement and work-life balance.
